Benson-Pope not standing for Labour

3 NEWS: David Benson-Pope, the controversial MP for Dunedin South has said he will not be standing in this year's election.

The three-term MP lost the Labour nomination for the seat to Clare Curran after resigning due to the Madeleine Setchell affair.

Prime Minister Helen Clark said Benson-Pope had misled the public over what he had known.

Benson-Pope urged voters to give their party vote to Labour regardless, though "little regard has been given to the very high level of voter support that I have received".
