RADIO NEW ZEALAND: The National Party opened its election campaign in Auckland on Sunday with its leader giving a personal guarantee to deliver on 11 key policies.
John Key addressed more than 1,000 supporters at the Sky City Convention Centre.
He says National will deliver a card to every household in New Zealand over the next 10 days.
It outlines already released policies including further tax cuts, increasing investment in infrastructure and capping the core public service.
"If I'm Prime Minister I'll deliver more than those 11 commitments," Mr Key said. "I am campaigning on a fresh set of policies across many areas of Government, and most importantly I am campaigning on bringing much-needed economic leadership to the Beehive."
Mr Key admits the card is similar to the Labour Party's pledge card but says it has been funded by National Party supporters, not the taxpayer.
He accused Labour of having squandered good economic times over the last nine years, saying Labour's leader Helen Clark had carried on with the farce of business as usual in the face of the international financial crisis.
He says in comparison National will rise to the challenges posed by the financial crisis.
