RADIO LIVE: The Green Party says many New Zealanders are increasingly unable to afford healthy food and are buying cheaper, less healthy alternatives.
A survey has found that 95 percent of people said that that due to rising food prices, they are trying to buy cheaper.
Sixty percent said they did not buy food they had planned to buy on the day they were questioned due to the price.
Fifty percent did not buy any fresh fruit or vegetables that day either.
Spokeswoman Sue Kedgley says many people said they are buying less meat, vegetables and milk, and are buying snack foods, instant noodles, and takeaways instead.
